Poppies, pansies and polyanthus.......

....grace the garden beds in Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton, a beautiful display of colour, yellow, orange, red and purple.

The park was known as 'Masterton Park' until 1954 when it was renamed after the newly crowned monarch, Queen Elizabeth. The first major planting occured in 1878 after a local nurseryman by the name of W W McCardle had prepared plans.

Today the park is a true asset to the town and is widely used by the community.

A little bit of history and colour for flower Friday, thanks to BikerBear for continuing to host this challenge.

Friday......warm sunshine with wind developing this afternoon while clouds hovered over the ranges, weather patterns continue to baffle me here, it really has it's own little micro climate.

Enjoy the weekend everyone :)
