Watts Chapel

As it is my birthday we decided we would brave the elements and go and visit somewhere interesting. I didn't expect that place to be a cemetery chapel! This little chapel has to be totally unique. It is located in the village of Compton just outside of Guildford in Surrey and was designed by Mary Watts, the wife of the British artist George Watts. The building is very small and yet visitors spend a lot of time here. The outside of this brick building is decorated with hand made bricks/tiles depicting many different figures and faces. The inside is decorated in a mix of celtic and art nouveau. What we thought would be a 10 minute vist and half a dozen photos turned out to be more than an hour and more than 200 photos between us. The actual cemetery is very quiet and peaceful and many of the tombstones have been created in the same style as the chapel. If you want to see a very unusual and extremely interesting little building then this is definitely somewhere for you to visit.
