Penultimate Day in Maine

After a superb breakfast and a delightful chat with innkeeper/chef Rose at Center Lovell Inn, we took a few minutes to photograph outside.

The massive old barn adjacent to the inn was built in the 1700s and measures 40 feet x 100 feet. Both Phil and I enjoyed photographing the few small windows in one of the barn's long sides. Rose and her husband plan to renovate the barn as an event space and to provide additional storage for the inn.

We decided to drive into New Hampshire, less than 30 miles away, with North Conway as a destination. The weather was perfect and the back roads uncrowded until we drew near our destination. We just missed a trip on the Conway Scenic Railroad, but had a good time exploring the detailed layout of model trains moving through varied environments, offered by the North Conway Model Railroad Club.

The fine weather persisted on our return drive to Portland, and after settling into our room in a downtown inn, we walked to The Little Tap House, a new place to us, for a leisurely, delicious supper. More walking seemed appropos after that, so we extended our downhill stroll to the waterfront and stopped in again at Liquid Riot brewery / distillery / restaurant for dessert. We used Phil's Lyft mobile app to get a ride back to our inn.

Sunday is our last day in Maine; we fly out midday on Monday and will arrive at our home just before midnight. It's been a very pleasant vacation in a part of the USA new to us, one we've enjoyed very much!
