Apfelkücherl Apfelküchle Apfelküchla Apfelkiach

........or Angie's variation of what the Bavarians claim is part of their cuisine. I guess given Beer is included in the dough mixture, they have a point. Apple rings dunked in the dough and swim-fried in fat/oil until crispy. Wanting to avoid such a load of fat, Angie did today's all together in a frying pan and poured the excess dough around them. Warm with a sprinkling of sugar and cinnamon. Delicious.

She and the dogs had been for a morning walk near Ottobeuren, the Schickling walk as we call it and "borrowed" a few of their apples. In general the apple and fruit season this year has been catastrophic especially for commercial growers with typically 80%+ losses. The three weeks prior to Easter were wonderful, the buds came out and on Easter Tuesday came the snow and frost.

So all you Kent farmers with excess supplies and hopefully with enough EU immigrant pickers, should be doing a roaring trade exporting to Germany where they devour apples and especially apple juice and thus ideal for fobbing off the poorer quality ones you can't yet export to Japan.

Another person I know with copious supplies of apples in the garden is daughter Kate in Ireland. This weekend she is hosting the Family plc Youth Division Autumn Conference: Brother J and his girlfriend Laura being guest speakers from the UK. Obviously, age precluded my attendance. Perhaps with the poor weather throughout most of northern Europe, they did some apple bobbing or sticky apples on a stick,

This evening I got the message that J was safely back at Gatwick and was looking forward to the full-blown Family plc AGM in December in Bavaria. I suspect we may well see some real Apfelkücherl at the odd Christmas Market then. Here a recipe video to get everyone in the mood. And don't forget the beer!

Geo-Tag is where the apples were stolen from.
