Last week we watched horrified as Harvey took the lives of (now) 70 in Texas while almost unreported, 1200 lost their lives in flooding in India, Bangladesh and Nepal-

Irma took the lives of some 40 in the Caribbean islands but we were all focused on Florida.

We felt for all the tax-evading owner's yachts and Gin Palace motorboats piled up on the shore but didn't see any footage of the local fisherman's wooden boats.

The 8.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico with near 100 dead was "noted" but give us the live report pictures from the Keys back, please.

While two deaths being reported in Florida, a family of four and a further 3 people lost their lives in Tuscany Italy in serious flooding. Almost unnoticed.

All-natural (we'll leave out global warming today) disasters. We build our condos on the water's edge knowing the risk, we fly on honeymoon to Key West during the hurricane season. We flock to San Francisco to live and visit, knowing it could end up in the Pacific at any moment  ... we are strange folk.

Did anyone (Cindy excluded) think of the events today - 16 years ago? The thousands of lives lost and ruined, the enormous pain and anguish, the trauma the rescuers had to face. Events caused by mankind on his own people.

Storms are scary, earthquakes alarming and the power of Nature awesome. But in comparison to man's hatred, envy, greed, injustice, evil .... nature is a pussy cat.
