Getting To The Root

Right in the centre of Brisbane is a little island around which lanes of traffic endlessly rush and onto which pedestrians find refuge negotiating the city centre.

Many don't really notice these amazing old trees with their aerial roots forming curtains to the ground. In the 1800s Queen Vistoria granted this triangle of land to be used as a place of rest for workers. I've never seen anyone resting there but there's no doubt that the shade they throw is appreciated in summer by all those waiting to cross these busy roads.

There are three trees here though they seem intertwined; two white figs and a banyan.
