Here we go round the Mulberry Bush

Its a Black mulberry tree actually and we are fortunate to have a large and very old one in our back garden. I say fortunate, from the point of view that it is an extraordinary thing you don't see often. On the downside it produces loads of soft squishy fruit which stick like glue to your shoes so trips down to the shed and mowing the lawn near it bring chaos and cursing. Unlike blackberries, the mulberry fruits are rich, sticky and after one or two actually unpalatable. The birds and the foxes love them, but mulberry fox poo is not something you want to tread in I can assure you. Never tried using the fruit for anything though I am sure some of you out there know a use for them.
The old thing is rotten in the middle, and it's only a matter of time till she will fall or I'll have to get the tree surgeons in. I might try to cut it back a bit to reduce the weight on the boughs so the winter winds don't stress it too much. It is also covered in Ivy which is brilliant for harbouring and feeding all manner of life all year round.
By the way, this isn't the type that silkworms live on - that is the white mulberry.
