Il Redentore, Venice

This is an image of the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redentore), to use its proper English name.  As you might guess,  today for the first time this trip we took  a boat, or Vaporetto. The fares have gotten very expensive since our last stay (for example a single one-way trip costs €7:50, or over $9.00. We considered the question at length, and decided to buy two 48 hour tickets, for a total of €60 ($75).  We started at 2:30 pm today, and went to to the train station to buy tickets for the next leg of our trip (in three days--stay tuned), and then half-way around the main island to the church of San Zaccaria (near San Marco). On the way we passed the Redentore, roughly opposite San Marco on the island of Giudecca (San Giorgio Maggiore is well out of the frame to the left).

It was wonderful to visit San Zaccaria again, with its superb altarpiece by Giovanni Bellini which I  blipped last time.  And it was great to be back on the canals again--even though the vaporetti we took were all overcrowded, with long waits.
