Hang Gliders at the Dune du Pilat

We took a three hour boat tour around the entire Bassin d'Arcachon (see the map) this afternoon. We hoped to see birds--especially around  Bird Island (Ile aux Oiseaux), but there were only distant gulls.  The most intriguing sights were many hang gliders (well over a hundred) at several areas along the Dune du Pilat, a huge extended sand dune which is the highest in Europe.

For the fun of it, I've put up two bird images yesterday from our outing to the Teich Ornithological Park: a Great Egret in flight with its reflection, and a flyover of three Spoonbills.
