From Olot

A rather drench day, so the other cyclists at the hotel had decided on a day off. We reckoned though that it was good enough, so we were going out. We had arranged to be dropped off at the other end of the Greenway in the town of Olot for the 57km ride back. The bike shop guy was a bit dubious given the rain, but we went for it anyway.

We did get quite cold as it was mainly downhill, so we weren’t working hard. the main difficulty was that the rain made the sand wet, harder to cycle through and also it was thrown everywhere by the wheels as you see from a pantomime grumpy JT in the extra.

We were coated from head to foot in sand with nowhere you could even dry or clean your hands. The bikes were also covered so much that we had to use water to clear out the gear mechanisms at one point. The photo is at a canal near to Girona.

About 5km from home we also realised that it had completely eaten through the rear brake block on JT’s bike, so he only had a front brake. Gingerly did it from then on...
