Toot, toot!

The Bure Valley railway - an absolute delight!  Narrow gauge, steam, dog friendly, going through beautiful countryside, it had everything going for it and it was all we could have wished for!  It even had a second hand book shop!  We went from Aylesham to Wroxham and back, and loved it.

In the afternoon we left Norfolk and crossed the country to end the day in Derbyshire, to Ashover, there to visit an old friend of Mike's with whom he had played in a brass band about 30 years ago!  We gave them about five minutes notice of our arrival, and considering it has been Christmas card contact only for many years, we were still welcomed with open arms and chocolate cake!

Lovely to hear Mike and John, and his wife Isobel, chatting away about the old days, reminiscing about band members and catching up on current family and village life. The photos came out, and there was Mike in the days before I knew him, with a bushy dark beard and lots of hair!  We also were given a dozen lovely fresh eggs to take away with us.

Camped on the edge of woodland and slept very well.  Another super day!
