Lunch on the Fly

A fly’s rear end poking out of a crack in a laundry pole usually means one thing. It has been captured by a flat jumping spider that lives in the crack. The spider’s furry grey head and legs clutch at the fly, one beady eye checking out the camera. Its two huge eyes are hidden by a hairy palp. The victim appears to be a small tachinid fly.

The election didn’t pan out well. We have to wait for a few weeks to know the result. But experience tells us which side is desperate enough to retain power that they will give the king-maker what he wants.

Today has been a summery 22ºC. I hope it doesn’t encourage frost tender plants to get going.
