Wood Hedgehog

Walking through the woods this morning I came across a ring of fungi approximately three metres in diameter with about thirty fruiting bodies of Hydnum repandum, commonly known as the Wood Hedgehog. The creamy white cap is quite large and somewhat irregular in shape but when you turn it over you find that, unlike other fungi which have gills or pores, the Wood Hedgehog (Pied de Mouton -Sheep's Foot - in France) has hundreds of soft spikes looking like stalactites covering the fertile surface. I've taken one home to see if I can collect a spore print.
