Sgwarnog: In the Field

Bounty

A bounty of early autumn butterflies around the village today. It seems ages since I've been out and about when there was a bit of sunshine but it made all the difference.

We know it's been a fabulous year for Red Admirals, and there were scores around today - especially on the ivy flowers in the graveyard. Speckled Wood were numerous too. It's been a while since I've seen some Commas though, and judging by the several fresh examples like this one that I saw today there is a new brood out. It was nice to see a couple of Peacocks and a solitary white. I rounded up a few more pictures in a tweet. For the moths, there was a late Common Carpet and a nice Ruby Tiger caterpillar.
