A Slight Mishap

The second batch of elderberries had been dripping overnight from a muslin bag, suspended over a bowl by string from a peg over a cupboard door above. It's a time-served method in the Flum household.

Preparing to make up the elderberry rob,  I was squeezing the last drips of juice from the bag when the string broke, the bag dropped into the bowl of juice, splashing the wall behind, the corner cupboards to my right (even as far as the toaster, some 4 feet away), the floor (including cat dishes) and, of course, myself. It took most of the morning to tidy up the mess, trying to recover as much juice as possible.

The process is time-consuming but the final result appears in the extra photo, twelve bottles (187 to 200cl) (plus one of the combined rinsings) to keep us cough-free for the next few months. And I think it tastes delicious.
