Historic Otterton

I went on a short historic heritage walk around the village of Otterton this afternoon.  It was very interesting and I hadn't quite appreciated just what a large port it was up until the late 1400's when the river silted up.  There were several farm buildings along the main Fore Street of which this is one.  An unusual feature of several of these old buildings is that the fireplace and chimney are build on the front of the house.  Records of this building - Rydon Farm indicate that the original house was a 3 room through passage building, probably 16th.century.

A fascinating walk that pointed out many features I hadn't noticed before in this interesting village.
