Top Gun

This fishing shop is called Top Gun and the letter 'A' is being used in exactly the same way that we use it in Flora, Dora and Victoria, so let's not get nit-picky. The letter U in Greek is the letter Y and is pronounced I as in police.

Pilots working for Thomas Cook airline are striking causing mayhem to the charter flights in and out of Skiathos airport. Guests expecting to depart today had their flight brought forward by four-and-a-half hours which meant that there wasn't a sailing early enough to get them there in time for check-in. Therefore they had to leave on the last sailing yesterday and find additional overnight accommodation on Skiathos. They were stoic about it but I do so wish that a smart shipping line could see its way to fiddling with schedules at times like these.

But worse was to come. Guests expecting to arrive today had their flight delayed by two hours which meant that they missed the mid-afternoon sailing across to us and the weather was far too wild for small boats like the water taxi. There was a late ferry scheduled to reach us here at 22:45 which we notified our guests about but added that they might just prefer to find somewhere else for one night. Nope.

By 16:30 it was quite apparent that the late ferry was running over an hour behind schedule and by 18:30 we were notified that it would be more like three hours late by the time it eventually arrived. The taverna our guests were waiting at closed and nobody else was waiting for the ferry. They became terrified that it wouldn't come at all and we continually reassured them that it was on its way and that we would be there to collect them. They finally arrived at 2am.
