It was important...

... to get out early this morning, not just to dodge the expected heavy rain but, crucially, to avoid traffic.

This was hopefully my last Then and Now shot of Harrogate for the forthcoming calendar, which the library team is producing. It would have been difficult, as well as dangerous to stand in the road and take this shot with traffic around, so early Sunday was the best time.

This original photo of James Street is dated around 1905; it was clearly a busy area of town. Standings Cafe on the right was very popular for decades and pre-dated today's famous cafe, Bettys (which is situated not far from the other end of James Street).
