Traffic was relatively light...

... around 11am in Harrogate Parliament Street.

In the middle of our usual Monday 'Local History group' meeting at the Library, we were trying to pull together the various strands for our upcoming 2019 Harrogate Then & Now Calendar.

The problem was that none of the pages I had produced matched the group's idea of a suitable calendar cover - something that was readily recognisable as Harrogate.

So we eventually agreed a possible 'Then' picture and I went off to take the corresponding 'Now' shot.

Despite the relatively light traffic, I decided that it wasn't wise to step into the busy road to try to get a more accurate match to this original 1894 image of Parliament Street. It must have been far easier when the only traffic was pulled by a horse.
