Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Outlander country!

A day trip out of Inverness to Culloden Battlefield ... with wonderful museum ( and it has a reenactment of this last hand to hand battle where Bonnie Prince Charles and the Jacobites are defeated by the English... in 45 min. .... ( and Jamie Fraser survives). Sorry .. our guide and half the people on our tour are NOT Outlander fans. I find it just adds to the enjoyment/fun. it was a dramatic very windy stormy day ( last of Maria hurricane) but we walked all around the moorland field... here with the blue flag for the Jacobite/ highlander line.... a bit eerie it is....
and Then, we had a stop at Clara Cairns which supposedly was the inspiration for the fictitious stone circle, Craig an Dun, in Outlander. Well it looks nothing like it.... but this stone seems to be "the one". H and I stayed in this age however and it seemed fitting for the blip of us in Scotland :-) It's actually a very interesting 4000 year old burial site ... that pile of stones behind... there are 2 here, with a narrow corridor to the burial chamber, which aligns with the midwinter sunset. each with a stone circle around it. And a center Kerb Cairn with an enclosed burial chamber. But the true meaning is of course obscure.
A visit to Brodie Castle ( big old manor house.. kind of boring but interesting family story...). for lunch as our picnic was rained out,.. and back to Inverness .. a rest and walk around town, and good tapas for dinner on our own at a fun Spanish place
"Tortilla". And we're off again in the morning.. . ( too) early.
