Plus ça change...

Hiding in plain sight

What I am actually taking a photo of here is the otter and cub (kit?) bottom left.  Somehow not spotting until later the huge wild boar top right...

Up early this morning (alarm clocks and everything) to call the school that won't take advance notice of absences, and to deal with Mr B work stuff before breakfast.  It's the hotel's last day (explaining I guess why there was only pineapple juice at breakfast!) and the manager was clearly in a great mood, given the number of boxes of chocolates and biscuits she foisted on us when we left.  I think our kids have charmed them with their use of Spanish (CarbBoy does the numbers and TallGirl the polite words and fancy tenses).

Off then to our favourite wildlife park - Aiguamolls - where we haven't been for ages.  The weather was not very clement (it was pouring when we had breakfast) but soon cheered up.  Well, in the sense that it wasn't raining.  The park was grand - with lots of the huge storks and herons it is famous for and (new to us) flamingos - but not pink ones (juveniles?).  They also have herds of white horses that graze the swampy land, and many other birds and beasts besides.  Not CarbBoy's idea of a perfect morning, to be honest, and not my ankle's either - but we all coped.

Then off to Bandito-land (La Jonquera) for a protein overload lunch, then lots of Spanish wine, etc, in the supermarket.  And home.  Just over the border and the weather brightened up so we drove (Mr B drove, happily for my ankle) through the vines of the Corbières in sparkling sunshine.

Home just in time to unload and then head off to collect the bunnies before closing time at the kennels.  They seem happy to be home.  Dinner, Battlestar Galactica and a quick check of TallGirl's hair (seems clear of lodgers) before a gratifyingly early night.

An exhausting yet invigorating break.
