New Place

Ann spent most of the day finishing the painting of the landing and stair well. I didn't do a lot, but did listen to two radio programmes on iPlayer; Martin Amis talking of his friend JG Ballard, a brilliant, in my opinion, writer. I have read most of his books. Also Lindsey Chapman talking of my home town of Hull, current city of culture, using poetry written about the city including Philip Larkin.

Later, after lunch, we went into Stratford and paid a visit to New Place, Shakespeare's local home, demolished after selling the house and now a display area and gardens managed by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.  After a wander round we headed for Nero for a well deserved, in Ann's case, cup of coffee.

The picture is Guild Chapel, next door to Shakespeare's old school, taken from within the gardens, the tree being one of the many sculptures there.
