Flowering Dogwood

Cornus florida was the designated the official state floral emblem of Virginia (USA) in 1918.
Dogwoods are not common here in Australia.  However, on visiting a friend's house this morning I was lucky enough to find her tree in full bloom. I particularly like the light through the underside of this lovely flower.  The upside is in extras.
