Ride Sally Ride

It's been a great night! Much of music is about the joy of making it happen with a good bunch of mates and when there's 12 of you in the band (it's 13 usually) there's a lot of joy to be had. This venue at Humber Farm is probably our spiritual home but this is the first time we've played without the wind whistling through the barn and the smell of sheep crap on the floor. The New Barn isexactly what it says but it's the old corrugated iron sheep shed that's been converted to a new function room.

This afternoon we moved half a ton (I'm guessing) of amps, speakers, stands, instruments and lighting in there and tomorrow morning we'll haul it all out again. This is the messy, hard work that nobody sees when you're not a professional band. There's no roadies to do it for us and guess what? We don't get rich, in fact it cost us money to keep this lot going and every penny of the ticket money goes to the charity we're doing it for. Tonight it was the local scouts group. We're lucky to have a scout troop in the village and this will keep them going a bit longer.

But that's not what tonight's about for me. As I said earlier, it's about the fun of doing it with a good bunch of mates and the applause comes back from the audience who are out there dancing and joining in enthusiastically with the 'Ride Sally Rides' in the final number.

Goodnight, I'm sure I'll sleep well.
