Crossing my path

As long as my middle finger
and as fat as my thumb,
the elephant hawk moth caterpillar
is as big as they come.

I saw a red admiral,
a dorbeetle and a slug,
but only the hawk moth caterpillar
was worthy of a hug.

Put on a lightweight jacket as I set off on my walk today. After all, it's October - you can't go out without a coat of some sort, can  you? Which meant I carried it for most of my walk; it's so still and mild today. And sunny, too! Big contrast to yesterday's miserable weather and strong winds!
