Fern oddities

I've just laid out the little hoard of ferns which I bought at the plant sale yesterday - all proceeds go to the British Pteridological Society. For the huge number of you who will want to know what they are (!) here's  the list, together with their places of origin:

Blechnum microphylla - Chile.
Blechnum penna-marina ‘Cristata’ – southern hemisphere.
Pellaea glabella - USA.
Cystopteris moupinensis – Himalayas, China, Taiwan.
Hypolepis millefolium – New Zealand.
Paesia scaberula – New Zealand.
Pilularia globulifera - Europe.
Pityrogramma calomelanos – South & Central America and the Caribbean.
Polystichum setiferum – South and West Europe inc. Britain.
Psilotum nudum – tropics and subtropics around the world.

The one in the jar is Pillularia, Pillwort, a rare plant of bogs and pond margins. You'd never guess in a million years that it was a fern! Likewise Psilotum, which has neither roots nor leaves. There are some strange things in the plant world!
