appearances deceive

CS Lewis, Jack is one of my all time heros. I grew up on Narnia and his other writings. I was involved in setting up a CS Lewis Association here in Belfast some years ago, a place where many people do not realise he is an Ulsterman! Despite all his prowess and success here was a man who understood how he appeared to others. He once said "I'm tall, fat, rather bald, red-faced, double-chinned, black-haired, have a deep voice, and wear glasses for reading. ",  yet he is not revered for these physical characteristics. They perished with him. It is his his writings which succeed him and which are his success, his legacy. So much of what is thrown at us today, as measures of success, links to our appearance, our job, our wealth and yet all of these have limitations. I would love to be remembered by someone, some day, by them remarking, "you know, when he said, wrote did "that" it made a real difference". So remember, appearances can and do deceive!
