Even in the gloom of the late afternoon, this hydrangea and its fellows seemed to glow from a garden in Toward. And yet I notice that there are streaks of blue deep in the flowers that make up this mop-head, as well as the rain drops lying on each petal.

I saw several hydrangea bushes of this colour within a square mile this afternoon - so presumably the soil in the area is more alkaline than in my garden where the front garden grows white flowers and the rear has one blue-flowering bush. I'd love my big white one to be this colour ...
