Scotland rugby legend leads The Edinburgh Kiltwalk

As regular visitors to our blipfoto journal will know, 2013 is shaping up to be a MASSIVE year for The Kiltwalk.

In 2011 we raised £120,000 for Scotland's Children's Charities. This year we're on course for £360,000, however next year we have set ourselves a £1,000,000 target.

Just in case you thought I had added too many zeros, let me confirm you read it correctly, yes a MILLION!!

To help us raise the magic million we have managed to get one of Scotland's most iconic figures, Oor Wullie on board thanks to the involvement of The Sunday Post.

However in addition to Wullie and his pals helping out, we decided to take The Kiltwalk to Edinburgh for the first time and we're delighted to announce another Scottish Legend, Chris Paterson has signed up to lead the Edinburgh Kiltwalk and pledged his support for Scotland's childrens charities.

Chris, Scotland's record capholder (109) and points scorer (809) will lead the Kiltwalk out of Murrayfield Stadium on 19th May and complete the first stage of the 26 mile challenge.

He'll then team up with wife Claire and daughter Olivia for the 10 km Wee Walk from Cramond back to Murrayfield.

It promises to be a special moment for any children doing the Wee Walk, striding into Murrayfield stadium alongside Chris to the sound of a lone piper. So let's give a huge Kiltwalk welcome to Chris, thanks for your support!

Let's remember why we do all this

220,000 Scottish children live in poverty and miss out on things that others take for granted such as a winter coat, a proper bed or even celebrating their birthday

9,000 Scottish children under the age of 16 run away each year and 1 in 6 of those will experience some kind of either physical or sexual assault whilst running

250,000 children attend hospitals supported by Sick Kids Friends Foundation and Yorkhill Children's Foundation every year. Some stay for days, some for weeks, some for months.

The amazing charities that The Kiltwalk supports help these children and many more like them...please do your bit and step forward to support Scotland's children.

What is the Edinburgh Kiltwalk?

In addition to supporting our regular Partner Charities, we are proud to announce that Edinburgh Sick Kids Friends Foundation will benefit directly from The Edinburgh Kiltwalk as the fifth Charity Partner.

Starting and finishing at the home of Scottish Rugby and taking in the sights of Auld Reekie in between, the Edinburgh Kiltwalk has 3 distances to choose from...

- 26 miles "Full Kilt"

- 13 miles "Half Kilt"

- 10 km "Wee Walk", from Cramond to Murrayfield

Start from Murrayfield led by Chris Paterson and massed pipes and drums.....

Finish by walking the last 144m along the length of the pitch to the strains of a lone piper.....
