Common Enchantments

Going to get water

Today we decided to go to the spring water place up on the high mountain about ten miles from this house.  The water comes out of a pipe someone years ago inserted into the ground and the flow is always full and fresh.  We have been drinking this water straight from that pipe for over 15 years..it is cold and sweet.   No germs or bugs involved ever and other people drive miles to get water at this spring.

So we left about 9:30 with our jugs and crossed the bridge over the creek that would take us to the forest.  It was a really cold, cloudy morning but not frosty like yesterday morning.  As we rounded the bend in the road we could see the mountain that was our destination..covered with a cloud!  I just looked at Jerry as we both knew what that cloud could mean.  But we just went on.   As we got closer to the spring, the snow from last weekend was still there on the sides of the road but not in the road which was good as it would not have been fun driving on wet snow..mud was bad enough.   We had to go past the spring up the hill a ways to a turn around place so that we could be going in the right direction after filling the jugs.  We met a family who were up on the hill gathering firewood.  Again, I just looked at Jerry as I could see tiny little flakes coming down.   By the time we got the water jugs full..about 15 mintues, the snow was like a blizzard!  Big fluffy flakes that completely covered the window of the truck and the road!   I know there had to be at least 3 inches in that 15 minutes!    We drove out to make our way back and the snow was still on the ground but did not seem as thick as up on the high mountain.   I was hoping to take some photos of the area from up high but I could not see anything except the road!   The total trip took about one hour!    Mid afternoon now with the sun shining and the snow is completely melted!   Colorado weather is certainly surprising!

The collage shows the bridge we had to cross about a mile from the house with no snow and then coming back with the snow on it. The road out of the forest close to where we filled the water jugs and a group of aspens that still had a tiny bit of yellow leaves attached.

Sunny and warm for tomorrow..but one just never knows.    This is the third time in October that it has snowed in this area.   We still have a month or so to be here so I don't think this will be the last of the snow I will be seeing.   Last year was very warm the whole time we stayed.  Only one little snow shower that melted the same day.
