Wild Geese

At first glance, a view of the autumn colours across the valley, taken from the road and on the outskirts our small village.
Look again and see if you find the 16 Canada geese flying along the valley, more-or-less at eye-level for us.
They aren't migrating here, they are just flying from one lake to the other. I guess it's training for the big flight south. They start to speak to each other while sitting on the water, then they start to flap around a little or run along the water.Suddenly one or two lift off. The others quickly join in, all loudly honking to each other, apparently in excitement. They circle around once or twice, allowing the stragglers to catch up and then fly the 700 meters to the next lake where they land and sit quietly on the water for an hour or so before they repeat the whole process, returning to the first lake.
Soon the lakes will be quiet and still, empty of geese and ducks, so for the moment it's lovely to hear and see all this noise and excitement before winter sets in.
