Football Oddity

We spent the morning looking round Berwick - into a few bookshops and charity shops and then down to the river for a bit. There was a very good exhibition in a gallery, featuring the work of the Scottish Colourists, which we stumbled across by accident but really enjoyed. And then we walked round the town walls back to the car. Having seen the football fixtures I'd decided a trip to see Berwick Rangers, the only English team in the Scottish Leagues, might be interesting. With the rain starting, L decided she'd rather sit in a cafe and read her book but I headed up to the ground and took up a position on the terraces -  a rare treat at football these days. The match was actually a Scottish Cup tie against Annan and Berwick, in the yellow and black, rode their luck a little on the way to scoring the game's only goal halfway through the second half. After last week's event at the Portobello Book Festival with Daniel Gray it was fun to be experiencing the sorts of things he had written and talked about only a week later.
