Beneath Biscay

Went for a walk today, including visits to a couple of beaches close to each other and near the villages of Novellana, Santa Marina and Castañeras in Asturias. The two beaches Playa del Silencio and Playa de la Gueirúa. The latter in particular is famous for its rock formations and is supposed to be the most photographed beach in Asturias. By the time we arrived we were nearing the end of our walk and both pretty whacked out hot and very sweaty especially given the heat today. The final descent to the shingle beach was down a slope followed by about 150 steps, followed by some minor acrobatics holding a rope where the last half dozen steps were missing, having been washed away.

So nothing very creative photo-wise. Also the tide today was not in our favour so much of the geology was submereged. Next time we'll make it a dedicated visit to Playa de la Gueirúa and check the tide times. Still, a pleasant if tiring day out.

Speaking of heat, I hear that Galicia is ablaze tonight. Daughter C in La Coruña can smell fires , but the worst at the moment seem to be around Vigo, Pontevedra and Ourense, and are being fanned by the remnants of hurricane Ophelia.
