shelter from the storm

Well it's been a funny old day... we took Georgie into Dumfries to catch her train back to Kilmarnock, and did a bit of shopping. Then took Maddy to see my lovely workplace (The Usual Place for those of you who don't know by now). It was busy with Mums, Dads and babies with the Sling Library. Also, although you can't really see it in the photo, there was an interesting exhibition of photos of young people.

When we left, the light outside was very strange and Sarah noticed that the sun had turned red. Apparently this was from Hurricane Ophelia whipping up Saharan dust. The weather turned very warm and then very windy and wet. The chimney sweep came to our house and then rushed away to batten down the hatches.

We were going out to dinner and as we left the house we could hear the wind roaring in the woods. We drove carefully around fallen boughs and over smaller branches littering the road. Susan, our friend, had cooked a three course vegan dinner which was well worth bracing the storm for :-)
