A time for everything

BLINK!

Saturday
Having been rather late going to bed last night, we didn’t get a real early start this morning. We were planning on going biking, but since it was a cool start, we thought we’d let it warm up a bit first. While we were drinking our coffee after breakfast, Laura messaged us to suggest we Skyped, so that was the best part of an hour gone. With the time difference, and the fact that her working week in Kuwait is Sunday through Thursday, it’s not always easy finding a good time when we can both talk with her. So it was shortly before noon when we got off for our bike ride, heading up to Corwin, and cycling north to Yellow Springs. This stretch is largely farming country, and several farmers were taking advantage of the dry sunny day, harvesting crops. It was almost mid-afternoon by the time we got home, and had a late lunch/early dinner, before heading downtown for BLINK, a four-day, light/art event, featuring over 40 interactive sculptures, murals, projection mapping and other light displays over 20 city blocks. We parked near The Banks, and started with the display on the National Underground Freedom Center, then worked our way up to Washington Park and Over the Rhine. It was a beautiful warm evening, and the crowds had turned out in force for this special event. The bars and restaurants along the route were doing a roaring trade, as well as the food-trucks, and additional drink stands along the way, but despite the large crowds and alcohol being consumed, it was a good-natured crowd, and we encountered no unpleasantness. From all accounts, it was a similar picture other nights too - a lot of people having a good time. We didn’t get to see it all - there were just so many sites to see, but I think we saw most of the main ones. We got down there about 7.30 or so, and it was almost midnight before we got back to the car - a brilliant event and a great night out!
