Awaiting Ophelia

The sun appeared red and the sky also took on sunset hues from midday.

According to the BBC news, it was due to remnants of Hurricane Ophelia dragging in tropical air and dust from the Sahara. Debris from forest fires in Portugal and Spain also played a part.

The dust caused shorter wavelength blue light to be scattered, making it appear red.
