Beneath Biscay

Service station with a view

Driving from Aveiro, Protugal to A Coruna in Galicia. Not a particularly good journey. Took a wrong turn after leaving the hotel and had to do a loop to get back to where we started from before trying again. Then managed to get to the motorway on the outskirts, only to almost immediately miss a turn, then have to go a fair distance to pick up the correct motorway again. Then having finally got on the correct motorway it seems that we still couldn't relax because there were frequent intersections to navigate. When we crossed into Galicia much of the motorway heading north is quite narrow, hilly and windy with plenty of traffic. Then when we finally arrived in La Coruna our normal route through the centre of the city was cut due to roadworks so more fun and games. So this stop on the motorway at the 'Estacion Servicio Rande' at Vilaboa just north of Vigo was a moment of calm, looking out east over what I guess could be called a sea-loch.

After arriving in A Coruña went shopping with C, or rather M & C went shopping while I had a beer next door in the Caneca Furada bar. The bar specialises in selling craft beers and I discovered an almost non-alcoholic beer from Denmark called 'Mikkeller Drink'n the Sun'. 0.3% alcohol but lots of hoppy flavour.

I'm a lot more tolerant of zero alcohol beer than I used to be. Perhaps they've just got better, but this one takes my tolerance to another level.

Later we went for a light meal at the Tapa Negra.
