Figures Of Speech

In Englisch you would say "a penny for your thoughts".  As far as I know there isn't a one-to-one translation into German. "Ich würde gerne wissen, was du denkst" as offered by dict.cc is a quite pedestrian "I would like to know what you think" and really isn't the same thing.

Anyway, after the week I've had, I've got a pound and I'll keep my more unkind thoughts to myself.
