Derelict Beelitz Heilstätten , Brandenburg

The weather was wonderful so caught the train to Beelitz Heilstätten This hospital complex is huge and has seen much history .Originally opened to treat TB patients it was later a huge hospital complex ,then taken over by the Russian Army..  When I last visited one could walk around. . Only a small part of had been  modernized and was functioning . Now this continues but the dereliction has been ''bought''. This in as much as :)
a) tours are possible through certain interesting parts and
b) it is hoped to slowly rebuild .Much damage has been done so let's   hope it works .Next week I go back to take a tour and discuss a photo opportunity  at the former Russian HQ there . The only way to grasp the atmosphere and size of Beelitz is to see a video .There are many in YouTube ..It was built in 1898 - Should you look this place up ignore one word. 'nazi' . Used as a sensation grabber the use of such is  deplorable. Built for TB patients  & so long ago ,to sensationalize so is little short of crazy  .Beelitz is amazing and the rather beautiful brickwork remains ( see chimney ) around doorways there are beautiful patterns and examples of nature in the stonework..  At it's height this hospital gave employment to most of the town .
