The Edge of the Wold

Beechwood pines

A backblip of a photo of the little Beechwood Nature Reserve after the deluge earlier in the month. There were floods elsewhere in Cumbria, and there was standing water in places I have never seen it before. There was huge contrast in light and shade in this shot, and it's needed quite a lot of lightening of the shadows to recover some detail.

Knottman2 could probably tell me why this small site is called Beechwood when it is most notable for the tall pines (in the top of one of which a pair of ravens has nested in recent years).
