200

All over the world, Bahá'ís have been celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of Bahá'u'lláh. You can see some of the celebrations on this wonderful website. My friend Venus invited me to the party taking place today at Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Centre. 70 people, some Bahá'ís but many of different faiths, were there to listen to stories and songs about the life and wisdom of Bahá'u'lláh, to eat together and to enjoy each other's company.

I particularly liked the stories which were told with the help of these puppets. One was about how, as a child, Bahá'u'lláh had seen an amazing puppet show, with a very haughty king wearing a shiny crown. You can read the story HERE. The other was about a woman called Táhirih, a poet and theologian who is best remembered for taking off her veil in front of a council of men, a truly shocking act at the time. She was executed in 1852.

I left just as everyone was tucking into an amazing vegetarian feast.  - one of the women joked to me that she had become a Bahá'í for the food :-)

Thank you Venus for a friendly and enlightening afternoon!
