Sléttjökull Glacier

We walked to the edge of this glacier this morning on a day filled with more incredible Icelandic landscapes. I had another difficult time selecting my blip, but this one won the draw. Look closely at the tourist near the edge of the water, she's wearing a red jacket, to give you an idea of the scale. Sadly, the glacier is melting at a record rate. The now exposed black sand speeds the melting, holding heat.

Speaking of black sand, here are  a few of shots of the black sand  at Vik and Reynisfara along the nearby coast. The wave action one is in color, not mono, incredible.
Reynisfara Beachand another.

Here's a precious Icelandic horse who granted me a photo op as we set out from the hotel this morning. Not to go unheralded, here's an Icelandic
sheep.

For the Record,
This day came in with sun followed by heavy cloud cover, but still perfect.
We saw a hint of the Aurora Borealis last night, very faint, but something to see.

All hands incredibly happy and feeling very pampered in our amazing hotel. the only downside is the astonishing number of tourists, buses and school groups everywhere. It's so different than 2004 & 2009 when we were here last. I feel for the Icelanders, their beautiful country is taking a beating for its popularity.
