Pink Robots

'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' (Flaming Lips 2002)

This is a picture of a painting of an album cover - painted specially for me by Lounardo. It is one of my favourite albums as it is so utterly crazy and 'quirky'.

I was listening to it today whilst trying (mostly without success) to finish a paper on a rather turgid research topic - albeit rather involved and philosophically challenging as it related to issues concerning paradigmatic incommensurability. In other words looking at the 3 worlds constituted by a) the material world (if you believe that); b) the social world (socially constructed through language and action); and c) the subjective world (of our own imagination and making). Try to reconcile these!

Hence - Yoshimi and her personal battle to rid the world of the evil and dreaded pink robots seemed to make a lot of sense! It is what we do all the time when we play computer games and the world of the virtual interacts with the world of the real. You can view this through a shared social construction perhaps in multi role playing or through a subjective view (it is whatever you make of it - real to you or not).

I think (hope) Yoshimi wins in the end !

Paper sort of finished - now wait for the inevitable 'academic kicking' from the 'Pink Robot' reviewers out there somewhere in the virtual university world. You have to have 'Teflon' coating in my job.

Do you realize??
