Chestnut Centre

The Chestnut Centre, near Chapel-en-le-Frith, is an otter and owl conservation centre.  The owners assisted in ensuring the wild otter population in the United Kingdom was afforded legal protection back in the 1970s.

Today may well be my last ever visit - it is closing at the end of the year due to the owners retiring.  The animals are all being transferred to the New Forest Wildlife Park which, as far as I understand it, is run by the owners' son.

It is a shame really - the Chestnut Centre lies in a secluded valley and it is  a great place to spend a peaceful hour or two - and for watching otters playing in the ponds.
