Enduring Eye

Two panels from the fantastic 'Enduring Eye' exhibition in the National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh. It showcases Frank Hurley's photographs from glass plate and celluloid negatives of the Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-1917 with Ernest Shackleton and his men, including newly-digitised images of the Endurance crew's epic struggle for survival, before and after their ship was destroyed. Miraculously Hurley managed to save more than 90 images to form one of the most poignant photographic records of human survival. Open till next Sunday - and it's free!
