Rememberance Day

Today is 11th November, remembrance day when those who fought in the world wars and since are acknowledged with a two minute silence at 11am.  Tomorrow will be the day of parades and laying of poppy wreaths in remembrance. For the first time in many years we will not be able to attend the wreath laying ceremony in the remembrance gardens in Old Town as we have guests and so meals to prepare. After coffee at the Swan Cafe Bar we went to the gardens and held our own mini remembrance in silence.  The photo is the memorial monument in the gardens.

I actually started preparing food this morning, finishing off later today, in the form of a Butternut Squash and Chickpea Roast, now ready for the oven tomorrow.  This will give me time to prepare and cook the accompanying main course plus some roast baby potatoes.

This evening we went to a talk, The Social Secrets of Fashion, at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Henley Street.  A very interesting talk and slideshow (do they still call them slideshows?) on Tudor and Elizabethan fashion for royalty and the very rich.
