Martin Parr Foundation.

We are in Bristol for the weekend, so I took the opportunity to visit the newly opened gallery of the Martin Parr Foundation.

I am sure many blippers will know that Bristol based Parr is a prolific documentary photographer and collector.  He set up the foundation a few years ago and moved into its new permanent home this year.  The foundation concentrates mainly on British and Irish photographers.  The first exhibition is of Parr's own work, his own take on the Black Country.  There are some prints on the walls of the gallery, but many of his books are also available for viewing (and purchase!).  A movie he made of a traditional Black Country confectionary company is also on display - a delightful, slightly satirical look at a long established and distinctly old-fashioned company very much in the style of his stills photography.

It's worth a visit if you happen to be in Bristol.  My blip is of visitor examining prints on display in the window of the gallery.
