Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Autumn View

Book club today at R’s.… never tire of taking a photo of this view from her deck (no it’s not really curved ) to the north and Lake Washington in every season…a very overcast somber day but still full of yellow.    Always wonderful to see this group of ladies…it seems many of us are Poldark Fans so there was some hilarity over that tv show.  A better tonic than too much focus on health or politics

2 short books by Julien Otsuka ,”The Buddha In the Attic”, about the “picture brides”, a group of young women brought from Japan to to San Francisco a century ago, a very poetic tale of how the American Dream turned out so different from what they expected.    “ When the Emperor was Divine,” about the Japanese Americans living here that were sent to internment camps during WWll.  Those of us that grew up in the midwest had no clue.  Those who grew up here knew many who were children at that time in the camps.   Both depressing bits of history…beautifully written I think but glad they were short as there were no happy endings….It’s time for one of those! :-)
