Mary Gates Hall

A fine night at Labs Unlocked at the UW run by the department of the Environment 3x a year to highlight and inform us about the research work being done.... tonight was volcanoes earthquakes and hurricanes .. all interesting info to learn about from the professors and students . Of course we are interested in learning about an earthquake before it arrives! We might put one of their sensors in our garage! But none of my photos did much for me...so you get this close by building... we went with friends and our longtime good neighbor who is the retired dean of undergraduate studies.... he took us on a mini tour of this building he was responsible for ... it was an old physics building that was made twice as large by building another building next to it with a new entrance between them. Then there was an “empty space” between the old building and the new.. ( can you guess which is which?) Tables were added and it’s now a well used study hall. Yes, Mary Gates is Bill’s mother and a longtime provost of the UW... I think it’s a lovely space ... that’s Mary Gates ‘ portrait at the end.
