Cardboard Cathedral

Good sleep last night and a hearty breakfast at our hotel, so we were set up for a walk around Christchurch this morning. Weather overcast but pleasant for walking about.

We visited the damaged cathedral in the centre of the city and various landmarks including the White Chairs memorial to the earthquake victims. We also saw the “Cardboard Cathedral”: or the Christchurch Transitional Cathedral, to give it its proper name and were most impressed with the simplicity and beauty of its design.

Later, we went on a punt on the River Avon and meandered through the stretch of the river in the lovely Botanic Gardens. A peaceful oasis within a city full of the noise and confusion of reconstruction.

A lovely dinner at the hotel this evening, but we move on early tomorrow, so must get some sleep now:-)
